POSITION

Full-Time, Salary, Performance-Based Bonus

As Conventus’ Construction Underwriter, you will be instrumental in helping analyze and find creative ways to minimize or eliminate financial risks inherent in our construction loan products.  You will work directly with our customers, 3rd party service providers, and Conventus’ entire team – from sales to processing to Underwriting – before a loan closes and after a loan has been funded.  You will help shape Conventus’ construction underwriting process by developing construction loan credit policies and training, monitoring and addressing loan quality issues, participating in product and process development, and reviewing complex construction loan transactions to make informed lending and investment decisions.       

  • TASKS

  • Provide advice on loan or funding structures to mitigate risk associated with client business and construction budgets, contracts, and plans

  • Review and comment on client design plans/specs, contracts, budgets, invoices, 3rd party feasibility reports, and design concepts in the context of feasibility and loan risk

  • Act as liaison between Conventus underwriters, credit analysts, salespeople, and clients regarding construction-related issues

  • Interview and validate borrowers, owners reps, and general contractors

  • Analyze disbursement requests category by category and in comparison to prior disbursements to evaluate project progress and potential risks

  • Coordinate and approve funding draw requests after verifying compliance with loan documents, internal guidelines, and inspector reports

  • Prospective and active client on-site visits (10% travel, nationwide)

QUALIFICATIONS

Skills

  • Strong organizational, quantitative and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to conduct phone interviews

  • Ability to meet deadlines

  • Ability to perform multiple assignments without immediate supervision

  • Familiarity with construction terminology

  • Ability to problem solve and investigate within the company guidelines

  • Excellent verbal and written etiquette

  • Fluent knowledge of construction loans w/ construction reserve

  • Construction experience (hands on- field & office, minimum 5 years)

  • Knowledge on draw inspection reports
